Malibu Knights

The Malibu Knights have been on the road for a year and a half now and loving every minute of it. Playing shows of all sizes, from small intimate Jasper pubs to huge outdoor festivals with Bif Naked. Their debut album …Since Happy Hour followed by 2 acoustic tours of Western Canada gave them a taste of the road, lifestyle and rewards of playing their own tunes for new people every night.

The band then started to experiment with new bigger sounds; drums, electric guitars, and pedals - this quickly became a new obsession. Their self titled EP was released in the summer of 2009 featuring a full band and the single I’ll Still Call, a track produced and mixed by #1 charting New Zealand producer Jonathan Campbell. The track immediately started getting air play in Western Canada especially in hometown Kelowna and was nominated for Rock Recording of the Year at the BCIMA’s. The band took this sound on the road going on two more tours in support of the EP.

In late November 2009, The Knights got back in the studio with Jonathan and local award winning engineer Adam Wittke and they started production on the new album. The record is focusing on the energy of the live show and the powerful vocals of songwriter and front man Dan Harden. The album will be quite diverse having both Jonathan and Adam producing their favorite songs from The Knights.

The Malibu Knights hit the road early April indefinitely and are sure to create a stir in Western Canada. With such a diverse set list and the ability to play any size venue keep your eyes and ears open for them on the road, playing for their lives.

Acres of Lions

Acres of Lions is a pop rock band from the island city of Victoria on Canada’s west coast. Their debut album, “Working”, was released in Canada on February 10, 2009 through Cordova Bay Records. Since the release, they have toured across Canada numerous times often quoting the lyrics from their album’s title track in interviews as inspiration for their efforts: “Work hard, make your body sting. Make something out of nothing.”

Recent News

In June, Acres Of Lions was selected as a Top 20 finalist in Music BC's Peak Performance Project (http://www.p3.com). The project is designed to help boost the careers of developing BC artists, and offers the band an opportunity to win more than $100,000 in funding that can be used to further their career.

GOODBYE BEATDOWN

Dizzy Dustin Overhill—Lead Vocals
Royce "Peaches" Whittaker—Guitar
Mark Luongo—Bass, Keyboards
Brani Shibilev—Drums
James Kennedy—Turntables, samplers, background vocals

Exploding out of the vibrant music community of Canada’s West Coast is Vancouver quintet Goodbye Beatdown – here to move the masses with their lightning, grinding grooves.

Melding the best dance floor elements of rock, reggae, funk and urban hip-hop into a modern boogie mélange, they recall the energy of Sublime and the Red Hot Chili Peppers while maintaining a sound and image all their own.

Goodbye Beatdown’s true powers have been the unending series of overheated, sweat-drenched capacity crowds they’ve captivated at Vancouver’s most prestigious venues – including the acclaimed Commodore Ballroom, the legendary Vogue Theatre and the sadly missed Richard’s on Richards.

They’ve shared stages with such seemingly disparate notables as Bif Naked, Default, Finger Eleven, Steel Panther, Swollen Members, Sean Kingston and Sam Roberts and have more than held their own- winning every crowd, every time.

No matter where they’re gigging – the Canadian Prairies, Toronto or Tofino – every show is scorching high noon in mid-July, both in attitude and sheer sonic sweat out.

Former battle-rapper and tireless party whirlwind Dustin Overhill sought out ace bassist and music business mind Mark Luongo who together with Bulgarian import percussionist extraordinare Brani Shibilev laid the early groundwork for their rock' n roll future.
DJ James Kennedy was coaxed from a burgeoning radio career into the mix with his tasteful touch on the turntables and the lineup was completed by fresh faced electric guitar phenom Royce Whittaker (aka Peaches), whose additional dosage of crackerjack musicianship pushed the group to new creative heights.

Along with their rapidly-expanding street vibe as Vancouver’s newest and best party band, Goodbye Beatdown are also proud champions of CFOX radio's prestigious Seeds competition- Canada's longest running and most distinguished independent music showcase.

MOBADASS

As a double-platinum recording artist and 3-time Juno nominee, MOBADASS frontman Earl Pereira has established himself as one of the most entertaining bass players in the country. Dubbing their sound ‘Island Rock’, MOBADASS blends a high-energy mix of electro-rock, funk, dance and soulful reggae. They are renowned for their extraordinary musicianship, supremely danceable songs, and for their phenomenal live show!

The first single "Home To Me" is a triumphant pop anthem in which Pereira cleverly uses the concept of home as a metaphor for love. "Nobody Knows" is arguably the most unique mix of styles combining Jack Johnson-esqe acoustic rhythyms with hip-hop, and tripped out jazz, while Pereira shares an interesting piece of his youth. This song also features Kyprios, one of Canada's finest emcees from the westcoast hip-hop group Sweatshop Union. The title track "Island Rock" is a more serious social commentary on racism yet it has a positive and uplifting undertone. From start to finish, this feel good album features great song after great song which is a rare feat in the modern day 'singles' driven music industry.

Biography

As a completely independent band, Toronto quintet Aberdeen has compiled an impressive list of accomplishments over their two years. With influences ranging from Incubus to Fall Out Boy to Ke$ha, Aberdeen strives to make the best pop music they can, focusing on a high quality of songwriting and an energetic live show.

Aberdeen's debut commercial EP, producer Tommy Mac of the multi-platinum Canadian band Hedley is projected to release in the summer of 2010. Outside of his Hedley fame, Tommy is best known for developing, producing, and managing Canadian up-and-comers The Latency. Soon after they had started the making of the EP, Aberdeen inked an artist deal with Gibson Guitars.

In mid 2009, Aberdeen recorded two singles with producer Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, Cute Is What We Aim For). These recordings are to be mastered in New York City by Michael Fossenkemper (Miles Davis, Marianas Trench, the Backstreet Boys and many more).

As an entirely independent band, Aberdeen has made some large strides over their two-year span. The boys earned a coveted spot on the 2009 Vans Warped Tour, being hand-picked to play the Kevin Says Stage, after displaying a dedicated fan following and a knack for the business. Aberdeen was crowned “Toronto’s Hometown Heroes” by the American publication Alternative Press Magazine and continue to work hard to expand into the United States. In addition, Aberdeen has completed two national tours and has appeared on Much Music, MTV, Aux TV, CBC Radio, 102.1 The Edge, and 1010 CFRB, among many other radio and television stations. Only months old at the time, Aberdeen was featured in a full-length interview with George Stroumboulopoulos on The Strombo Show, broadcasting nation-wide.

The driving force behind Aberdeen remains their need to write and perform music. It is said that one shouldn’t enter the music business because they want to, but because they have to. The members of Aberdeen have no desire other than to dedicate themselves entirely to the music they make and as such will do whatever it takes to propel Aberdeen forward.

KINGS WITHOUT

Having played well over 200 shows a year for the past 2 years, Kings Without are busier than ever with performances all over Vancouver Island and Western Canada. For a few summers they were the house band at the prestigious Clayoquot Wilderness Resort where they were exposed to the ruggedness and beauty of west coast living. A recent highlight in their music career occurred at the resort when the band backed up Sarah Mclachlan at one of her charity events. The early stages of the band's existence and development was spent under the watchful eye of the resort's general manager and former manager of Blue Rodeo, John Caton. Many evenings were spent performing to the resort guests in an intimate and relaxed setting. Now they have proven to be very well prepared for any size audience. Their original sound is a blend of rock, country, reggae, funk and soul. A focus on strong honest vocals and musicianship uniquely provides a unifying and recognizable element throughout these styles. Kings Without is available for events such as conferences, private/corporate parties or dances, charity fundraisers, festivals, and are always actively playing the bar circuit.

THE HEARTWICKS

The HeartWicks were formed as a minimalist vocals, guitar, and drum based band in 2007. However, social acceptance was limited in the one bedroom apartment with neighbors above and below voicing their opinions with a broom handle to the ceiling or heal to the floor.
The Band determined to take this seriously in Dec of 2009 with the addition of bass organ, synthesizer, and piano. This compliment has opened the door for screaming guitar hooks over bass driven 70's organ power pop.
"The experience we create is an anthem for Love & Death; the reality of each is our song." ~ Jason Hofer
